Ratlou continue to nurture a breed of athletes

Yet another lethal athlete to emerge from Ratlou locality. The young and vibrant track-runner who is not even deterred by poverty and rurality which has been part of his upbringing is set to raise the bar higher in the coming National School Athletics scheduled to take place this Friday, 21 March 2019, at Port Elisabeth in the Eastern Cape.  The 18 year-old talented runner, Lesego Tsikwe from Kagiso Barolong Secondary School in Logageng village west of Mahikeng, has been involved in athletics from his tender age whilst at Mosita Primary school in Logageng.

The young athlete currently have eight (08) gold and ten (10) silver medals to his name and he is set to represent the North West Province at National School Athletics Competitions following his performance during the recent District competition in Potchefstroom. Tsikwe obtained position 1 in the 1500 m track-race and was awarded a gold medal.

“Despite challenges of lack of facilities in most of our schools and communities, this Municipality will continue to offer support to our young and upcoming athletes from various sporting codes.”  these were the words of Mayor Tebogo Modise during Tsikwe`s farewell meeting.

Like it has been a norm for Ratlou Local Municipality to give support to those poor and deserving sportspersons, Mayor Tebogo Modise applauded Kagiso Barolong Secondary School for producing such a young and talented young man who is not only representing Ratlou but the North West Province. The athlete who was accompanied by his trainer, the school`s Principal Mr Happy Makokoe and other colleagues, received sponsorship of a pair of athletics gear, tracksuits and running shoes from the Municipality ahead the competitions.
