Ratlou Local Municipality`s Mayor Tebogo Modise took yet another approach in celebrating the Women`s Month with various communities of Ratlou Local Municipality. As a token of concern for poor girls and young women who do not afford the price of sanitary towels during their menstrual circle, the Mayor decided to swerve from the usual way of celebrating the Women`s Months with events and festivities. This time around the Mayor of Ratlou Local Municipality visited identified Primary Schools in the Poor and Rural communities within the Municipality and distributed Sanitary towels to girl learners.During the Mayor`s visit to schools, school authorities could not hide their gratefulness for what they received on behalf of poor girls. Various Primary schools including Maiyaiyane, Logagane,
Mogakolodi and Makgobi Secondary School were some of the recipients of the three hundred Sanitary towels.Mayor Tebogo Modise who was accompanied by the Ward Councillors and respective area Social Workers could not hold her emotions when she saw the living conditions and family background under which most of the young girls were coming from and burst into tears. The Mayor advised both teacher and children not to give those Sanitary towel to those whom it was not meant for, they must be given to these young girls when such a need arise. “There are such times when parents do not afford to buys these girls pads and by then a child will is forced to use other means such as tissue/toilet papers instead, but if as authorities and business community can supply some of them free of charge then better for them,” Tebogo Modise concedes.“We decided to visit schools this time around and issue young girls with these sanitary towels, meanly because we want to move away from the usual festivities during commemorations of days such as Women Day,
a question we need to ask ourselves is, does how we celebrate the Women`s Months impact on the vulnerable groups of our society or are we doing this just to remind them such commemoration days?” the Mayor asked.Meanwhile, on Friday 24 August 2018, Ratlou Mayor Tebogo Modise closed the Women`s Months with a formal and stylised Women Seminar with young Women from various communities within Ratlou to remember Mama Albertina Sisulu and finally close this year`s Women Month activities. In the event that was attended by many including queens of various tribal authorities within Ratlou, Mayor Modise urged especially young women to focus on their future and careers with passion and enthusiasm. The clamorous event was also attended by women in business and leadership and various motivational talks on health, fusion, careers as well as beauty
exhibitions were presented to young women by their peers who are in business. The event was held at Ratlou Thusong Centre in Setlagole.
