Setlagole: – Ratlou Local Municipality: 18 January 2022: Following recent torrential rainstorms in most part of the country, Ratlou local communities were also hit hard by the storms living some roads and bridges damaged. In Kraaipan village two bridges linking to sections of the village across river collapsed and most internal roads damaged due to heavy storms over the weekend.
The floods did not only cause damages to property but had also affected free and easy movement of people and goods across the village due to overflowing rivers. Buses cannot ferry learners to and from schools on either sides of the village and people are unable to continue with their daily responsibilities including going to work. In Mareetsane the entry and exist bridge has also collapsed due to floods and community members are urged not use that route from the N18 (Vryburg road).
Accompanied by the Executive Mayor of Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality, Cllr Khumalo Molefe and the Provincial Disaster Management Team, the Mayor paid a two days visit to the two villages to assess and monitor the situation.
